Abstract

Après avoir montré la stabilité de la localisation et des systèmes de production du lait en Europe, cet article examine les problèmes de compétitivité (et leurs évolutions entre 1984 et 1986), à partir des données du RICA, sous deux angles complémentaires : la "compétitivité par les coûts" et les inégalités de revenu. Du point de vue des coûts de production, trois pays apparaissent particulièrement bien placés malgré des combinaisons factorielles très différentes : le Royaume-Uni, l'Irlande et la Belgique. L'échelle des compétitivités-co ûts se modifie peu au cours de la période 1984/1986. La structure des coûts se modifie néanmoins : l'accroissement des charges de structure est compensé par des baisses sensibles des charges proportionnelles, notamment des aliments achetés. Enfin, la période se caractérise par une évolution positive des revenus, sous le jeu combiné des coûts, des prix et des dimensions. Globalement, la mise en place des quotas ne semble pas s'être accompagnée d'une homogénéisation des conditions économiques de la production laitière. La diversité des prix, des coûts et des revenus persiste.
