Abstract

Depuis la fin de l'année 2001, l'Argentine est entrée progressivement dans une crise aiguë : blocage des dépôts bancaires, contrôles sur les sorties capitaux, abandon du currency board. Plutôt que de se réduire à un scénario classique de crise de change liée à une crise bancaire, l'enjeu central est en fait monétaire : ceci explique la violence exceptionnelle de la crise et les énormes risques économiques et sociaux qu'elle comporte. En effet, le flottement du change revient à mettre en concurrence directe deux monnaies entièrement substituables, dotées des mêmes fonctions au plan interne. Dans ces conditions, le risque est d'aboutir à le destruction de la plus faible des deux (...).
