Transnational Regulators as Translators the case of Internet payments

Abstract

Un des phénomènes actuels les plus marquants est celui de l'internationalisation des services (Tersen et Bricout, 1996). Réputés difficilement exportables (Segal-Horn, 1993), ils prouvent pourtant jour après jour leur capacité à se développer à l'international (Vandermerwe, 1989 ; Campbell et Verbeke, 1994 ; Gadrey, 1994). Afin de pallier les limites du corpus usuel nous avons entrepris d'introduire une approche alternative : celle de la traduction (Callon, 1986 ; Callon et Latour, 1991 ; Latour, 1989). Nous avons commencé par soumettre notre matériau empirique (études de cas dans le secteur des réseaux bancaires électroniques internationaux) au cadre théorique de l'école de la traduction, dans une visée interprétative. Toutefois, cette étape interprétative nous semble devoir être complétée par une étape de conception d'un cadre opératoire de type « framework » (Porter, 1991, p.95). Notre travail comporte un double enseignement : d'une part, l'enrichissement de l'interprétation d'un objet important, singulier et générique à la lumière d'une sociologie de l'innovation encore relativement peu utilisée en sciences de gestion ; d'autre part, la conception d'un outil à l'usage des dirigeants pour les aider à construire collectivement leur stratégie.
