Abstract

Il est aisé de reconnaître, sans tomber dans le piège d'un déterminisme fort dépassé, le fait que le développement technologique exerce une influence majeure sur l'évolution sociale. Ainsi, de nombreux travaux du champ d'étude « Science, Technologie, Société » (STS) ont été consacrés aux « sociotechnologies » et ont montré « comment les techniques sont prises, transformées et déplacées en même temps que la société » (Vinck 1995, p. 255). Bruno Latour et Madeleine Akrich, par exemple, ont comparé le processus d'innovation avec l'élaboration d'un scénario ou script qui distribue les actions et les rôles autour de l'artefact (Akrich 1987 ; Akrich 1989 ; Latour 1991). Mais le scénario proposé par les concepteurs se confronte avec les mises en scène particulières des utilisateurs dans des situations concrètes. Pour pouvoir s'approprier la technologie, celle-ci doit être en quelque sorte « domestiquée » (Sørensen, Aune et Hatling 2000).
