Abstract

De quelle manière les agents coordonnent-ils leurs actions afin d'obtenir le résultat le plus favorable ? La théorie des jeux n'offre malheureusement pas de réponse définitive à cette question qui a stimulé de nombreuses contributions théoriques et expérimentales depuis les travaux de Schelling [1960]. Pour les jeux de coordination pure, Schelling avait avancé l'idée que les agents avaient tendance à se focaliser sur certains équilibres, ceux dont les actions sont les plus « saillantes ». Une des manières d'obtenir ce type de coordination consiste à rompre la symétrie inhérente aux jeux de coordination pure. Plusieurs expériences ont montré qu'on pouvait créer une telle asymétrie en substituant à la procédure de décision simultanée une procédure séquentielle. Avec la procédure séquentielle, les agents choisissent leurs actions dans un ordre fixé de façon exogène, mais l'ensemble des actions n'est révélé publiquement que lorsque tous les agents ont pris leur décision.
