Abstract

Dans cet article, nous rappelons les controverses sur la « solidarité » des banques centrales française et anglaise durant la période bimétallique, puis recherchons, dans l'histoire et chez les auteurs contemporains, des preuves que le bimétallisme a été très tôt un système régulé par les interventions conjointes de la Banque de France et de la Banque d'Angleterre sur leur taux d'escompte respectif en vue d'une stabilisation du taux de change.
