Les séjours d'étude à l'étranger des étudiants : la quête d'un bonus pour l'emploi et la formation ?

Abstract

It is becoming increasingly common nowadays for students to carry out part of their studies in other countries as the result of both the supply (inter-institutional arrangements) and the demand (students' own preferences and projects). Although these two tendencies are combining to increase the number of departures, it seems doubtful whether the priorities are the same in both cases. The aim of this paper is to identify and classify the main factors contributing to current departure rates. The results obtained using logistic model show that the main factor involved is the demand on the part of the students, as reflected in most cases in their study projects and their plans to join the labour market. This specificity means that students' periods of study abroad should be assessed at two levels, in terms of their usefulness to the students and their fairness at the decision-making level.
