Abstract

Dans Le Figaro, quotidien qui avait autrefois publié des articles très favorables au Creusot et à la famille Schneider, le célèbre journaliste Jules Huret (rendu célèbre par son Enquête sur l'évolution littéraire de 1891) a publié, peu après la fusillade de Fourmies (1891), une enquête donnant la parole aux principaux leaders socialistes, à des ouvriers et à des personnalités du patronat. Ces derniers n'apparaisent pas à leur avantage ! J.Huret est jeune (32 ans), a tout visité au Creusot. Milieu familial très modeste, dreyfusard, très nombreuses enquêtes par la suite. Cette enquête, typique du "remords social" des années 1890, fut publiée en volume en 1897, avec une lettre d'introduction de Jaurès. L'interview de Henri Schneider était parue dans Le Figaro du 6 août 1892, dans le volume imprimé elle est encadrée par deux entretiens avec un contremaître et un ouvrier du Creusot.
