Determinants of Firms Size. A Survey of Literature

Abstract

Ths subject of this study is the rationale behind two, at first sight conflicting trends: on the one hand we see a strong growth in the numbers of mergers and acquisitions, and on the other there is much attention for the (perceived) growing importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for the economy. While many firms grow larger and larger, government policy is focusing on the small firm, entrepreneurship and start-ups of new firms, since they are supposed to stimulate economic growth through a more dynamic economy.
