Population and health in Spain. Patterns by gender, age and income status

Abstract

In this paper we use the Spanish National Health Survey of 1997, recently made available, to establish health patterns by gender, age and income status of the adult Spanish population. We analyse perceived health and major health problems, the use of health services or health related behaviours. We identify clear patterns of the latter by gender, age and income. Perceived health, for instance, is worst among women, as age rises or as income diminishes. Although the evidence we find is unconditioned, we carry out a limited regression analisis that confirms it
