Corporate Organizations and Telework: A quantitative analysis(in Japanese)

Abstract

Telework comprises work forms and styles free from the restraints of time and space. It utilizes information and communication technologies, such as, e-mail, the Internet, the Intranet, and data transmission. This study analyzes and clarifies differences between those who perform Telework and those who don't in corporate organizations. It has been a boon for this study to make use of the corrected data, authorized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), provided by the nation-wide survey on conditions of Information Processing in corporate organizations, conducted in March 2003. This data included analysis of the degree of Information Technology(IT) utilization, corporate reform, organizational structures, human resource investment and Telework in corporate organizations. The focus of my study while incorporating certain constant factors, from the useful METI study, expands on these: inter-action of Telework with/within corporate organizations. My analysis shows that Telework is effectively carried out and promoted in the metropolitan area by industries in the field of information service, production, and manufacturing, Further, the highly informatized organizations, categorized as "Business to Business "enterprises, employ a work hour system which estimates labor hours utilized by employees who work far from their offices and find it difficult to estimate them. A similar problem arises in supporting employees of decentralized businesses, even though they have remote access to IT, and assistance from human resource investment.
