Abstract

Questa Nota è un insieme articolato di evidenze empiriche sull'evoluzione del mercato dei prodotti farmaceutici a brevetto scaduto (off patent) in Europa, con un focus sull'Italia. Lo studio esamina il mercato off patent nel suo complesso, prendendo in considerazione gli andamenti in prezzi e volumi di tutti i prodotti interessati dalla scadenza brevettuale. Dopo aver evidenziato le principali differenze tra Paesi in termini di composizione complessiva del mercato, lo studio si concentra sulla descrizione degli effetti della scadenza del brevetto su prezzi e volumi, a valore di prezzo ex factory. Le elaborazioni si riferiscono a una base di dati che copre oltre 300.000 prodotti commercializzati attraverso il canale di vendita retail in 15 Paesi Europei, estratti dal database MIDAS di IMS Health, per i 12 anni che vanno da aprile 2001 a marzo 2013.
