Abstract

This paper studies the possible effects of the Uruguay Round Agreement and of the Customs Union Agreement with the European Union (EU) on the Turkish manufacturing sector. The first part of the paper concentrates on the study of the effects of new rules and disciplines introduced through the respective agreements. The following section studies the structure of protection, effects of changes in protection rates and issues related to market access. The third and last section considers the implications of the Customs Union Agreement for textile and steel products. The paper concludes with a summary of main findings.
