Una aproximación al sesgo por calidad del Índice Nacional de Precios al Consumidor

Abstract

La literatura especializada reconoce la existencia de sesgos potenciales en el índice de precios al consumidor. Utilizando índices de precios hedónicos generados por el Bureau of Labor Statistics, el ajuste al precio de los automóviles propuesto por Izquierdo, Licandro y Maydeu (2001), y los resultados de Guerrero (2006) relativos a las computadoras personales, estimamos el sesgo por calidad del índice de precios al consumidor. Según nuestro ejercicio, entre julio de 2003 y julio de 2006 la inflación fue de 11.91%, y no de 12.50% como reporta el Banco de México.
