Abstract

This paper builds up a Composite Index of Life Quality to compare the quality of urban life in 43 cities belonging to the Metropolitan Area of Valencia (MAV). Seven relevant facets determining life quality are aggregated in a composite indicator, using a methodology based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), combined with a Multi- Criteria Decision Model. The findings allow a complete ranking of the whole set of MAV’s cities. With the exception of the city of Valencia, all the other municipalities that top the quality-of-life rank display a relatively low population density and lack a significant manufacturing specialization.
