Abstract

La Encuesta Demografica Retrospectiva de Guyana se llevo a cabo entre los meses de agosto de 1986 y enero de 1987. Su objetivo fue la recopilacion de la informacion demografica mas indispensable para la toma de decisiones, supliendo algunas deficiencias existentes en los registros de estadisticas vitales y en los datos sobre movimientos migratorios. Los datos se recolectaron en un solo ciclo de visitas, que comprendieron una muestra de aproximadamente 8.500 hogares, cubriendo las 10 divisiones administrativas del pais. Se empleo una muestra bietapica, seleccionando en primer lugar el distrito de empadronamiento y en segundo lugar los hogares; el marco de muestreo fue proporcionado por el censo de 1980. El tamano de la muestra se determino considerando los costos y la representatividad para todas las regiones. Se incluyeron modulos especiales sobre mortalidad y migracion internacional. Se acompana cuestionario de la encuesta y otro material utilizado.
