Balance preliminar de las economías de Centroamérica y la República Dominicana en 2020 y perspectivas para 2021. Febrero de 2021

Abstract

En 2020 las economías de Centroamérica y la República Dominicana (CARD) sufrieron una profunda y generalizada contracción, que en la mayoría de los casos fue la más severa observada en varias décadas. La CEPAL estima que el PIB promedio de CARD se contrajo un 6,1%, después de 10 años de expansión ininterrumpida. Esta caída se explica principalmente por las medidas de restricción de movilidad y cierre de actividades, que fueron implementadas en mayor o menor medida en cada país de la subregión con objeto de contener la propagación de la enfermedad por COVID 19, así como por una notable contracción de la demanda externa. En el ámbito macroeconómico, los países de CARD pusieron en marcha diversas políticas fiscales, monetarias y macroprudenciales para enfrentar los efectos negativos de la pandemia. Las siguientes secciones de este documento ofrecen un resumen de estas.
