Istmo Centroamericano: evolución económica durante 2006 y perspectivas para 2007 (evaluación final)

Abstract

Rasgos generales de la evolución recienteLa actividad económica del Istmo Centroamericano en 2006 se expandió 6,1%, un punto y medio porcentual más que en 2005 (4,5%), y un medio punto superior al promedio de América Latina y el Caribe (5,6%). 1 Una tasa de crecimiento similar no se registraba desde 1992, en que la variación se ubicó en 6,6%, y es la segunda más alta en 30 años. En términos del producto interno bruto (PIB) por habitante, el aumento fue de 4%. Esta fase expansiva del ciclo económico ya se ha prolongado cuatro años, y ha estado estrechamente ligada a la evolución de la economía estadounidense. Si bien casi todos los indicadores económicos mostraron avances, para mejorar decisivamente la situación social en esos países sería necesario crecer a tasas similares de manera sostenida por varios años.
