Panamá: evolución económica durante 2006 y perspectivas para 2007

Abstract

Rasgos generales de la evolución reciente Por tercer año consecutivo, la economía panameña registró una elevada tasa de expansión. En 2006 el producto interno bruto (PIB) se elevó 8,1%, luego del 6,9% de 2005, por lo que el PIB por habitante aumentó 6,3%, acumulando una ganancia de 17% en el último trienio. Buenas condiciones Internacionales impulsaron las exportaciones de bienes y servicios, mientras que la demanda interna continuó mostrando un fuerte dinamismo, estimulada también por la abundancia de crédito. En el sector público se obtuvo un superávit, a la vez que se redujo a la mitad el déficit de la balanza de pagos. El desempleo abierto siguió descendiendo hasta llegar a 6,7%, y las remuneraciones reales tuvieron un ligero incremento, en condiciones en que la inflación bajó a 2,2%. Panama : Economic evolution during 2006 and Outlook for 2007 Abstract: General features of the recent evolution For the third consecutive year, the Panamanian economy registered an elevated rate of expansion. In 2006, the gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 8.1%, after growing 6.9% in 2005, as a result GDP per inhabitant grew 6.3% accumulating a growth of 17% during the last three year period. Favourable international conditions fostered exports of goods and services, while the domestic demand showed continued buoyancy which in turn was stimulated by the abundance of credit. The public sector posted a surplus, while the balance of payments deficit was reduced to half. The level of open unemployment continued its downward trend to reach 6.7%, while real wages experienced a slight increase, due to the decrease in inflation (2.2%)
