Abstract

Mediante este documento se procura dar respuesta a la continua demanda de información comparable, confiable y de calidad. Los datos expuestos se presentan en series cronológicas estandarizadas y revisadas para que se pueda llevar a cabo el análisis de las tendencias del sector.El documento contiene información relacionada con la producción, el consumo y el comercio de los subsectores agrícola, pecuario, pesquero y forestal. Además, y para posibilitar una evaluación completa del sector agropecuario, se proporciona información detallada sobre el PIB global de cada país, el PIB agropecuario, valor de la producción, crédito, empleo, población, pobreza, salarios y uso del suelo.En el documento se muestran cuadros y gráficos sobre el valor de la producción agropecuaria, la superficie cultivada y la producción, el comercio del sector, el consumo, los precios pagados al productor, la inversión y gasto del gobierno en el sector, entre otros indicadores.La información recolectada tiene como propósito servir como insumo para la elaboración de diagnósticos de nivel nacional y regional sobre la evolución del sector agropecuario, apoyar la formulación de políticas de desarrollo agropecuario y estrategias nacionales, y ayudar a la elaboración de investigaciones socioeconómicas específicas del sector agropecuario. Esto se hace en el marco de los procesos de apertura económica comercial y las negociaciones multilaterales y bilaterales.El documento se complementará con el Sistema de Información Agropecuaria (SIAGRO), la base de datos creada por la CEPAL para este sector, el cual se encuentra en www.cepal.org.mx. Próximamente se publicará un documento con el análisis de las tendencias expuestas en esta recopilación estadística. Basic information on the agricultural sector for the sub region of north of Latin America and the Caribbean, 1990-2003 Abstract: The main objective of this report is to answer the continual demand for comparable, trustworthy and high quality information. To meet this objective, the data of this report is presented in a chronological, standardized and carefully revised series, upon which an analysis of the tendencies of the sector was conducted.The report contains data related to production, consumption and trade for the sub sectors of agriculture,livestock, fishing and foresting. Additionally, to enable a complete evaluation of the agricultural sector, the report provides detailed information on the GDP of each country, the agricultural GDP, production value, credit, employment, population, poverty, salaries and use of land. By means of charts and graphs, the report illustrates the agricultural production value, cultivated land and production, trade flows of the agricultural sector, consumption, prices paid to producers, government investment and expenditure for the agricultural sector, among other indicators. By presenting the collected information, the report aspires to serve as inspiration for elaborating diagnosis on the agricultural sector, on a regional and national level. It also hopes to aid in the process of formulating agricultural development policies and national strategies, as well as be used as a base for elaborating socioeconomic evaluations on the agricultural sector, which are realized within the framework of economic aperture and multilateral and bilateral negotiations. Additional information relating to the subject matter covered in the report can be provided by the Agricultural Information System (SIAGRO), the database created by ECLAC for this sector, which may be located at the following web address: www.cepal.org.mx. An analysis on the tendencies presented in the statistical compilation in the report will be published shortly.
