Abstract

La informacion del censo de 1988 muestra que el nivel educacional de la poblacion de las reducciones indigenas de los distritos de Labranza, Molco, Maquehue y Metrenco, IX Region de Chile, es bajo en el contexto nacional. Los indicadores mas desfavorables corresponden a las mujeres. El analfabetismo absoluto afecta a cerca del 20 por ciento de la poblacion de 5 anos y mas, al 16 por ciento de la poblacion de 15 anos y mas y a casi el 25 por ciento de las personas de 30 anos y mas. El promedio de escolaridad es de 4,1 anos (3,8 entre las mujeres), cifra que alcanzaba a 3,2 en la Region en 1982 (p.142). El analfabetismo es mayor entre las personas de mas edad y alcanza su nivel maximo entre los mayores de 29 anos que hablan el mapudungun. El comportamiento similar de la escolaridad de hombres y mujeres menores de 30 anos indica que existe una tendencia hacia la mayor incorporacion de la mujer al sistema educativo a partir de la decada del 60.
