Migraciones internacionales en Belice. Una vision etno-demografica

Abstract

El estudio adopta una perspectiva etno-demografica con el objeto de dar cuenta de la realidad socio-cultural que la migracion presenta en Belice, tomando en cuenta tanto las caracteristicas de la sociedad receptora y sus habitantes como las de los migrantes. Previo la discusion de los antecedentes historicos y del papel de las migraciones en la conformacion del pais, se describen las caracteristicas geograficas, demograficas, etnicas, economicas y sociales de Belice. El examen detenido de las migraciones privilegia las principales corrientes de inmigracion del siglo XX, incluyendo la llegada de contingentes de refugiados centroamericanos durante las ultimas decadas. Se examina asimismo la emigracion de beliceanos cuyo pais de destino es Estados Unidos.
