Curso historico de la fecundidad en Cuba

Abstract

En Cuba, la fecundidad experimenta un descenso temprano en comparacion con otros paises de la region, alcanzando niveles bajos en la decada del 50. Las estimaciones disponibles indican que la tasa bruta de natalidad descendio de 48 a 27 por mil en los primeros 60 anos del siglo (p57). La evolucion descendente de la tasa global de fecundidad -con valores cercanos a 5.8 hasta la segunda decada- se enmarca en la crisis del modelo neocolonial cubano entre 1934 y 1958. Al ano siguiente del triunfo de la revolucion se produce un alza marcada de la variable de 3.76 entre 1955-1959 a 4.67 en 1960- 1964 (p23), como producto de la estabilidad social, la seguridad economica y la expansion de los servicios de salud. A partir de 1964, el descenso se reinicia y acelera progresivamente de tal modo que hacia 1980 Cuba ha alcanzado niveles inferiores al reemplazo con una tasa bruta de natalidad de 1.06 para 1975-1980 (p24)
