Errores y sesgos en los procedimientos de estimación de mortalidad infantil a partir de la sobrevivencia del último hijo

Abstract

El analisis de los procedimientos basados en la sobrevivencia del hijo anterior, ya sea obtenido a traves de una entrevista en terreno o al momento de la mujer tener un nuevo hijo, es en general alentador. La experiencia en Republica Dominicana indica que la estimacion de la mortalidad infantil a partir de censos o encuestas esta poco afectada por sesgos propios del procedimiento que no superan el 5 por ciento. Otra fuente de posible sesgo, tambien de poca importancia, es la estimacion de las defunciones correspondientes a nacimientos el ano anterior al considerado que podria estar afectada por el uso de un factor de separacion erroneo. La mala calidad de los datos si constituye una fuente importante de error y el unico camino para lograr buenas estimaciones es mejorar la recoleccion de los datos en el terreno.
