Abstract

Las tablas abreviadas de mortalidad por quinquenios 1950-2025, fueron elaboradas a partir de las tablas existentes para la fecha de los 4 censos realizados entre 1950 y 1984. Durante el periodo 1950- 85, se produjo un aumento de la esperanza de vida al nacer de 20 anos; la mortalidad infantil fue reducida casi 5 veces. Los mayores progresos se observan respecto a la mortalidad femenina. Los cambios producidos en las condiciones de sobrevivencia de la poblacion tienen multiples repercusiones. Por ejemplo una persona de 60 anos tenia la posibilidad de vivir 15 anos adicionales en 1950, mientras que en 1985 puede aspirar a vivir 20 anos mas; este hecho tiene repercusiones en el ambito economico y en el sistema de seguridad social, porque significa un aumento de la carga al sistema de salud y en el financiamiento de pensiones. La mortalidad infantil podria superar la barrera de los 10 por mil y la esperanza de vida a los 60 anos aumentaria en poco menos de un ano. Se senalan diversos usos que se pueden dar a las tablas de mortalidad.
