Abstract

Compilacion de capitulos seleccionados del libro La Duracion de la Vida" de los autores Dublin, Lotka y Spiegelman. Los capitulos: la duracion de la vida y las tablas de mortalidad; las tablas de mortalidad como antecedentes del progreso hasta fines del siglo 19; aspectos biologicos de la tabla de mortalidad; los factores biologicos que influyen en la longevidad y en la mortalidad. Los temas tratados incluyen, entre otros, la longevidad de los hombres celebres; el aspecto impersonal de la longevidad; la poblacion de la tabla de mortalidad; la amplia aplicabilidad de la tabla de mortalidad; la duracion de la vida y la mediana o promedio de vida; primeros estudios de la longevidad basados en la mortalidad contemporanea; ordenacion de causas de muerte segun edad; los componentes de la curva de fallecimientos; los peligros antenatales y neonatales a que esta expuesto el nino; el desperdicio reproductivo; la mortinatalidad; los peligros que acarrean el embarazo y el alumbramiento."
