Estimaciones de nupcialidad, fecundidad y mortalidad basadas en historias de familias chilenas

Abstract

Mediante la aplicacion de modernas tecnicas de analisis demografico a fuentes historicas, se efectuan estimaciones de nupcialidad, fecundidad y mortalidad basadas en historias de familias chilenas. El analisis se centra en dos grupos diferentes de la sociedad chilena de los siglos 18 y 19. Uno, denominado familias santiaguinas, como su nombre lo indica, esta formado por personas cuyo lugar de residencia habitual fue la ciudad de Santiago, que pertenecen ademas a una elite de familias del estrato social mas alto de la capital y del pais. El otro grupo, denominado familias campesinas, vivio durante el siglo 18 y primera mitad del siguiente en la localidad rural de La Ligua, sin que sus familias llegaran a distinguirse en el lapso estudiado por su notoriedad economica o su prestigio social. Aunque entre ellas se cuentan muchos pequenos artesanos y modestos comerciantes, por su clara calidad rural se pueden definir como campesinas.
