Situacion educacional de la mujer

Abstract

De 8 paises de la region, 5 de ellos exhiben un analfabetismo femenino entre 5 a 12 por ciento en 1970 mientras que en el otro extremo hay 5 paises en donde mas del 40 por ciento de las mujeres son analfabetas; en todos los paises el analfabetismo es mayor en las zonas rurales. En cuanto al acceso a la educacion, 17 de 24 paises tienen una tasa de matricula de 95 por ciento en el nivel primario; en el primer ano las mujeres repiten menos que los hombres pero en el sexto ese comportamiento tiende a igualarse. En 1970 habia 5 de 19 paises en los cuales el 40 por ciento y mas de las mujeres en edad de cursar secundaria estaban matriculadas; en el extremo inferior habia 5 paises en que el porcentaje era de 20 por ciento y menos. En el nivel superior es donde las diferencias en contra de la mujer son las mas marcadas. La mujer esta representada en forma desproporcionada en los estudios de letras y educacion, reproduciendose los estereotipos sexuales vigentes en la region.
