Factores que influyen en los intervalos intergenesicos de mujeres que viven en zonas rurales y semiurbanas de America Latina

Abstract

Con datos de PECFAL-Rural, referentes a mujeres que no usan metodos anticonceptivos y tienen a lo menos dos embarazos, se obtiene una muestra de 1468 mujeres en Peru, 1346 en Colombia, 1702 en Mexico y 836 en Costa Rica. Utilizando la metodologia propuesta por A.K. Jain y un analisis de Clasificacion Multiple, se observa que las variables que mas influyen en los intervalos intergenesico son: a).resultado del embarazo anterior: se presenta una diferencia aproximada de 6 meses, entre el intervalo que sigue a un nacido vivo, que a una muerte fetal. b). edad de la mujer: los intervalos crecen a mayor edad de la mujer, observandose una diferencia de 4 meses en Peru y Mexico, 5 en Colombia y 7 en Costa Rica. c). lactancia: se presentan intervalos mas largos para mujeres que nunca dan pecho, decrecen hasta la categoria de 3 a 6 meses, para aumentar monotonamente hasta las mujeres que dan pecho mas de un ano y medio. No se observan diferencias entre los intervalos intergenesicos de mujeres de zonas rurales con las de zonas semiurbanas.
