Abstract

En este libro se ofrece un revelador análisis sobre el cuidado de largo plazo de las personas mayores. Se examina cómo la CEPAL ha sido pionera en impulsar su reconocimiento como un derecho humano fundamental, culminando en su inclusión en la Convención Interamericana sobre los Derechos Humanos de las Personas Mayores en 2015. Se profundiza en la concepción del cuidado como experiencia universal e interdependiente y se exploran los escenarios demográficos y sociales en el Caribe hispano, Centroamérica y México. A través de un análisis exhaustivo de las fuentes de datos disponibles y las perspectivas de actores clave, se fundamenta la responsabilidad estatal en la provisión de servicios de cuidado de largo plazo, posicionándolo como pilar esencial de los sistemas de protección social. Esta obra constituye una guía fundamental para comprender uno de los mayores retos sociales contemporáneos al ofrecer propuestas adaptables a las realidades de cada país y establecer bases sólidas para el desarrollo de políticas públicas.
