Implicaciones del desarrollo de los biocombustibles para la gestión y el aprovechamiento del agua

Abstract

Este informe tiene como objetivo analizar el impacto del aumento de la producción de biocombustibles en la cantidad y calidad del agua disponible para otros usos y señalar herramientas y estrategias que pueden contribuir a disminuir los potenciales efectos negativos. Con ese fin, el capítulo 2 buscará introducir al lector a la temática de los biocombustibles y a su estado de desarrollo actual en los países de la región. El capítulo 3 se centrará en la identificación de los impactos de la producción de biocombustibles en la cantidad y calidad de agua. El capítulo 4 mostrará distintas estrategias legislativas para hacer frente a los efectos identificados en el capítulo 3, basándose para ello en la revisión de la legislación de la Unión Europea y los Estados Unidos, incluyendo el análisis de distintos sistemas de certificación voluntaria para la producción de biocombustibles. El capitulo 5 analizará la legislación adoptada por algunos países de la región en materia de agua y biocombustibles. Por último, el capítulo 6 concluirá señalando algunas herramientas y estrategias que pueden utilizarse para abordar los impactos identificados a lo largo del informe.
