Perspectivas Demograficas de Galicia

Abstract

Galicia ha sido hasta mediados del siglo veinte una de las regiones con mayor peso poblacional de España, con un porcentaje superior al 10% en las primeras decadas de dicho siglo. Los fuertes movimientos migratorios de la primera mitad del siglo, primero hacia Latinoamerica y despues hacia los paises mas desarrollados de Europa, la industrializacion tardia, el descenso de los precios relativos de la agricultura, y la baja participacion de Galicia en muchos capitulos importantes del gasto publico español han sido algunos de los principales factores que explican su perdida de peso relativo en la poblacion nacional, hasta situarse en el 6.6% en el año 2001. A pesar de ello Galicia ha tenido una evolucion muy positiva en las ultimas decada del siglo veinte en industrializacion, turismo y educacion, y es deseable que se superen tambien otros obstaculos para conseguir una recuperacion del peso poblacional de Galicia, en torno al 7%, o al menos para evitar que descienda por debajo del 6%. En este trabajo se analizan algunos modelos econometricos que explican esta evolucion y se presentan tres escenarios alternativos respecto a la evolucion de la poblacion de Galicia en el periodo 2001-2011
