Abstract

O livro Desigualdades Regionais no Brasil: Natureza, causas, origens e soluções, traz uma hipótese para explicar o atraso relativo do Nordeste em relação ao Centro-Sul Brasileiro. Ele traça as origens históricas dessas desigualdades e mostra como foram criadas estruturas sociais distintas na ocupação das diversas regiões brasileiras, resultando em uma menor concentração de capital humano no Nordeste. Ele mostra como essas diferenças se perpetuam no tempo e não diminuem apenas com a atuação das forças de mercado ou políticas de suporte a empresas, como se pensava no passado. O livro apresenta essa hipótese de forma simples, sem recorrer ao tecnicismo exagerado que às vezes ocupa os escritos dos economistas modernos. Ao mesmo tempo, não perde o rigor de análise, recorrendo a apêndices mais técnicos quando necessários, de forma que a argumentação possa ser convincente também para aqueles treinados nas técnicas da economia moderna.
