Abstract

Aponta as principais dificuldades enfrentadas pelo setor sucroalcooleiro do Brasil, agravadas pela política governamental, em vigor desde 1989; preços controlados, crescimento abaixo do potencial, disparidades regionais, a instabilidade de preços do açúcar em nível internacional e o ônus do financiamento do subsídio ao consumidor de álcool combustível levaram o setor a ineficiências, apesar de seu potencial para sobreviver sem o excesso de intervenção verificado em outros países.
