Movilidad Ocupacional en América Latina

Abstract

En contraste con los avances recientes en el estudio de la movilidad intergeneracional educativa en América Latina, poco se sabe acerca de cómo evolucionó la movilidad de ocupaciones en la región y en países en desarrollo en general. En este trabajo utilizamos información detallada de encuestas de hogares que permite analizar categorías ocupacionales más desagregadas respecto a la literatura previa, así como considerar ambos géneros de padres e hijos. A diferencia de la movilidad educativa, la movilidad ocupacional no ha aumentado de manera constante en América Latina a lo largo de las últimas décadas. Nuestros resultados sugieren la importancia de considerar otros canales que afectan la movilidad social, como el mercado laboral, los cuales no necesariamente han seguido el rol igualador que ha tenido la educación.
