El papel de la educación en la aglomeración urbana

Abstract

En este trabajo desarrollamos un modelo de equilibrio general en el que la educación produce una externalidad positiva en la economía y, por tanto, el gobierno tiene cabida como mecanismo corrector de la misma. Nuestro interés es encontrar de que forma el capital humano puede influir en la concentración de la actividad económica en grandes núcleos urbanos en un contexto de áreas metropolitanas. La introducción de este factor permite la aparición de nuevos equilibrios, como son aquellos en los que coexisten dos ciudades de distinto tamaño, resultado que sólo había sido obtenido en la literatura bajo supuestos menos razonables.
