El costo social de la inflación en Colombia

Abstract

La inflación genera afectaciones no solo en el mercado y la economía en general, sino también en aspectos sociales como la pobreza y la desigualdad, en conjunto, afecta el desarrollo económico y el bienestar. Este panorama se presenta actualmente en Colombia, donde la inflación ha impactado de forma heterogénea a grupos poblacionales con diferentes ingresos, en especial, a los más vulnerables. En ese sentido, la política monetaria de incremento de las tasas de interés ha sido el principal mecanismo para contener los desajustes en las expectativas de inflación, esto, en un contexto de reformas, desaceleración económica y un entorno internacional tenso. Así pues, la sociedad, el gobierno y las instituciones del país tienen el reto de coordinar políticas económicas para reducir el costo social de la inflación.
