La transformación de los hogares: una visión de largo plazo

Abstract

Este artículo analiza los cambios ocurridos, durante los últimos 25 años, en los hogares colombianos desde dos perspectivas. Primero, los cambios en la estructura de los hogares y sus implicaciones. Segundo, los cambios en la fecundidad adolescente como comportamiento resultante del contexto del hogar. Los resultados indican que aunque la familia "tradicional" biparental sigue siendo la forma dominante de organización, se observa una tendencia hacia su debilitamiento, con una consecuente disminución del tamaño del hogar y un aumento en la tasa de jefatura femenina. La evidencia sugiere la existencia de dos procesos simultáneos en la estructura de los hogares: el incremento de las uniones consensuales como fundamento de la familia y el aumento de la inestabilidad de las uniones, ambos con efectos negativos sobre los niños y adolescentes. Se observa que la incidencia y el "timing" de la fecundidad adolescente, el inicio de relaciones sexuales, las relaciones sexuales prematrimoniales y el madresolterismo han venido aumentando
