Análisis económico de los servicios provistos por una plantación forestal: el caso del eucalipto en Chile

Abstract

En este trabajo se discute el papel que podría cumplir en la zona centro-sur de Chile las plantaciones de eucalipto teniendo en cuenta además de su uso tradicional como fuente de madera, otros usos como como fuente de dendroenergía y del servicio de sumidero de carbono. Para lograr este objetivo se aborda un modelo teórico cuya base es el modelo básico de Faustmann. Este modelo es modificado de acuerdo al problema de estudio bajo tres escenarios posibles de producción de madera: industrial; industrial y dendroenergía; e industrial, dendroenergía y sumidero de carbono. De las simulaciones numéricas se concluye que la inclusión de estos objetivos adicionales en la función de beneficios del propietario, no modifica sustancialmente la edad óptima de rotación, pero incrementa el valor presente neto de esta actividad productiva.
