Abstract

Este estudio analiza el mercado de maíz amarillo, pollo y huevos en Colombia, mostrando que la demanda de maíz amarillo ha aumentado y se prevé que continúe en ascenso debido al creciente consumo de productos avícolas. No obstante, Colombia carece de la capacidad productiva adecuada para satisfacer esta demanda presente y futura, lo cual la obliga a depender significativamente de las importaciones. En este contexto, la implementación de una política comercial proteccionista, como la imposición de aranceles, no resolvería las limitaciones de productividad del sector; por el contrario, incrementaría los precios del maíz debido a la alta demanda y producción restringida, con efectos adversos sobre la industria avícola y su competitividad internacional. Asimismo, el aumento en los costos de producción de pollo, cerdo y huevos se trasladaría a los consumidores finales, impactando particularmente a los hogares más vulnerables al deteriorar su presupuesto y calidad alimentaria. Esta situación podría resultar en un aumento de los niveles de pobreza y pobreza extrema, agravando los problemas de seguridad alimentaria y bienestar en el país.
