El efecto del salario mínimo sobre el empleo y los ingresos

Abstract

En este trabajo se evaluó el efecto del salario mínimo sobre los salarios y el empleo utilizando la Encuesta Continua de Hogares (ECH) para el periodo 2000 – 2004. Se encontró que el efecto sobre los salarios en el agregado es positivo. Sin embargo, para quienes ganan menos que el salario promedio el efecto es positivo y para quienes ganan menos es nulo. En el caso del empleo se encontró que hay un efecto negativo sobre la probabilidad de encontrar empleo. Ahora bien, cuando se realizan las estimaciones sobre grupos de edad (jóvenes y viejos) se encuentra que para las personas entre 18 y 23 anos su efecto es positivo.
