Pobreza y trabajo infantil: diferencias entre trabajo dentro y fuera del hogar. Evidencia para Colombia, 2001-2003

Abstract

La pobreza ha sido catalogada como la principal causa de trabajo infantil. Los padres de los hogares más pobres deben recurrir al trabajo de sus hijos como única alternativa para sobrevivir y alcanzar el nivel de consumo de subsistencia. Bajo esta perspectiva, se pensaría que a mayores niveles de riqueza del hogar, menor va a ser el tiempo que el hijo trabaja; por lo que la relación entre riqueza y trabajo infantil se presumiría monótona decreciente. No obstante, diversos trabajos han analizado esta relación, llegando a resultados importantes que sugieren que esta relación no es tan simple como parece.
