Determinantes del crecimiento poblacional de los municipios colombianos 1951- 1993

Abstract

Este trabajo estudia los determinantes de la tasa de crecimiento de la población de los municipios colombianos observada entre 1951 y 1993. En las estimaciones realizadas usando mínimos cuadrados ordinarios se encuentra que una de las medidas de capital humano, la proporción de la población que sabe leer y escribir, es uno de los determinantes más importantes del crecimiento de la población. Adicionalmente, los municipios que en 1951 no suministraban a sus habitantes los servicios públicos básicos presentan menor crecimiento. La variable geográfica que más influye en el crecimiento de la población es el porcentaje de terreno plano del municipio y los resultados obtenidos confirman que, durante el periodo estudiado, la población colombiana migro hacia los municipios con altura inferior al promedio nacional
