Composición de la economía de la región centro de Colombia

Abstract

La región Centro del país agrupa los departamentos de Tolima, Huila, Caquetá y Cundinamarca; comprende un territorio equivalente al 13,7% del total nacional, donde habita el 11,9% de la población colombiana, y contribuyó entre 2001 y 2010 con el 9,8% del Producto Interno Bruto (PIB). Cuenta con un sector primario que ha venido cayendo en forma tendencial a causa de su bajo ritmo de crecimiento; en el que las ramas predominantes son los cultivos de otros productos agrícolas, la extracción de petróleo y gas, y la producción pecuaria. El sector secundario logró detener su descenso en la segunda mitad de la primera década del siglo XXI, cuando comenzó a crecer lentamente; posee actividades de gran importancia en materia de contribución al PIB, como la industria manufacturera, la actividad edificadora y la generación y distribución de energía eléctrica. Por su parte, el sector terciario ha ganado la participación perdida por los dos anteriores, hasta convertirse en el de mayor relevancia dentro del producto regional; en éste los renglones más representativos son comercio, administración pública y defensa, y servicios a las empresas.
