Abstract
ABSTRACTThe present work is intended to describe the professional labor market in the Metropolitan Area of Cali-Yumbo (AMC) and to develop a model that allows calculating the probability of a professional to be unemployed. Such work is developed based on the information of La Encuesta Continua de Hogares submitted in the second trimesters during the period 2001-2006. Among the most important results, the following stand out: the population economically active is characterized for a higher and growing level of qualification; the global rate of participation of the professionals is higher to that of the non-professionals; the generation of professional employment by the manufacturing industry has lowered participation, as well as in the public sector. On the other hand, the service sector and the private one have increased their participation. The high proportion in the use of informal search channels, to be a household head and the experience are shown as factors that explain the probability of unemployment of a professional, while for the non professional the gender and the years of study are added. In general, the quality of the employment of the professionals is high according to the Employment Quality Index (ICE).
