Comportamiento Reciente (2000-2005) del Sector Floricultor en Colombia

Abstract

Por varias décadas el sector floricultor colombiano ha contribuido a la generación de divisas y empleo. Recientemente, atraviesa por una difícil situación económica, marcada por pérdidas crecientes de un grupo también en aumento de productores. Existe también un porcentaje importante que continúan obteniendo ganancias en su negocio, auque a tasas bajas. El presente trabajo explora los factores que ayudan a explicar dicha situación en el período 2000-2005. Se analizan las características del mercado de exportación, la producción nacional y, para una muestra de 146 empresas, la evolución de los ingresos operacionales, costos, utilidades y rentabilidad. Los resultados indican que la coyuntura actual puede asociarse a la evolución reciente de la tasa de cambio y la consiguiente revaluación del peso que ha afectado los ingresos de los exportadores de flores, en particular en el año 2004; y a los altos costos directos, afectados especialmente por salarios reales y costos de transporte e insumos.
