Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic was a shock to the global economy, taking the world by surprise. In Quebec, as everywhere else, the restrictive measures implemented to manage the health crisis had significant consequences on people's lives. Although accompanied by support measures, the lockdowns led to impacts on the employment level in Quebec. This study focuses on employment conditions, work productivity, mental health, work-family conflict, and the evolution of health-related quality of life in Quebec following the lockdown measures. The study relies on data from a series of seven survey cycles conducted between March 2020 and June 2022. The analyses suggest that the lockdown had negative effects on health-related quality of life (HRQOL), particularly among individuals with employment. These individuals reported higher levels of depression, anxiety, and stress, with the phenomenon being more pronounced among younger people and women. This deterioration in mental health may have affected worker productivity, highlighting the importance of addressing mental health in the workplace.
