Les déterminants du choix du domaine d’études universitaires. Une revue de la littérature et identification de pistes d’interventions

Abstract

Pour plusieurs, le développement et la croissance économique des prochaines années seraient particulièrement tributaires d’un niveau élevé en capital humain des populations, et celui associé à une forte formation scientifique. On n’a qu’à penser aux défis que posent les changements climatiques, la maîtrise des nouvelles technologies et l’impact du développement de l’intelligence artificielle pour s’en convaincre. Une opinion répandue est que la technologie, davantage que les changements de comportements des consommateurs, sauvera la planète. Le marché du travail devra s’adapter aux applications liées à l’intelligence artificielle. Bref, une main-d’œuvre particulière sera requise. Deux questions nous interpellent à cet égard. Premièrement, quels sont les déterminants de l’acquisition d’un diplôme universitaire? Deuxièmement, conditionnel à ce premier choix, quels sont les déterminants d’un choix d’un domaine scientifique, notamment, celles exigeant une formation en mathématique importante? Sur la base d’identifier ces déterminants, quelles sont les politiques éducationnelles et économiques en mettre en place pour hausser la diplomation universitaire et inciter des choix de carrières scientifiques?
