LE rôle de Karl Menger dans la diffusion de l'oeuvre économique de son père Carl Menger

Abstract

Lorsque Carl Menger décède en 1921, son oeuvre économique est associée à son ouvrage de 1871, les Grundsaetze. Depuis sa retraite en 1903, Menger a refusé toute nouvelle publication de cet ouvrage, consacrant sa recherche à la psychologie en particulier. Son fils Karl Menger reprend les notes et carnets de son père après son décès, les remet en forme, change le plan de l'ouvrage et complète le texte. En 1923 paraît la deuxième édition des Grundsaetze. Le texte a doublé. Quel est le rôle de Karl Menger et l'originalité qu'il introduit par rapport au travail de son père? Cet article fait le point sur les différences entre les deux éditions, et met en évidence quelques points de divergence introduits par le fils dans le retraitement des travaux de son père: la notion d'utilité, le traitement cognitif du subjectivisme ne sont pas identiques.
