A First Exploration of the Water Use Data from the 2017 Economic Census

Abstract

The 2017 Economic Census collected a small number of water use questions from establishments in 41 manufacturing and 12 mining industries (Basker et al. 2019). In this paper, I provide an analysis and assessment of the data that were collected, lessons learned, and some basic if heavily-qualified findings drawn from the data. Data quality is a significant concern.
